Laetitia Havers’ passion for music and singing started from a young age and has seen her develop into a talented young lyric soprano with a promising career ahead of her. Her musicianship, developed from playing various instruments, is evident in her singing and her tone carries a characteristic warmth. From singing to prisoners in Edinburgh’s Saughton Prison, training choirs and running music workshops in Uganda, Kenya and Thailand, to recording and performing for radio, television, recitals and operas across Britain, Laetitia is in her element when performing.
Laetitia recently achieved a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance at The Royal College of Music, London (2006-2008), whilst studying with Janis Kelly. Other diplomas and degrees include a Distinction in a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance and an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma from Trinity College of Music, London (2004-2006) and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Edinburgh University (2004).
In 2006 she was awarded a place on the first ever ‘Royal Opera House’ Chorus Mentor Scheme. She was a finalist in The Roy Pleasance Competition and The Elizabeth Schumann Duo Competition for Lieder (Trinity College of Music, 2006), Edinburgh's prestigious Tovey Competition (2000-2004), and won song classes in Edinburgh's Festival Competition. She has been awarded the Vivian Prins Memorial Award, Douglas & Hilda Simmonds Award (RCM 2007), Bucher Fraser Scholarship (Edinburgh 2006) and scholarships from the Sir Richard Stapley Trust Fund (2007 & 2006), Newby Trust (2005) and the Gwen Clutterbuck Scholarship (2004). She has taken part in masterclasses with Sarah Walker, Lucy Schaufer, Patricia Rozario, Patricia Macmahon and Iain Burnside. And has been fortunate enough to work with Sir Charles Mackerras, David Pountney, Michael Rosewell, Stephen Varcoe, Margaret Kingsley, Christopher Middleton, Peter Selwyn, Philip Headlam and Roger Vignoles to name a few.
Laetitia’s operatic roles include ‘First bridesmaid’ whilst covering ‘Barbarina’ for the Benjamin Britten Opera School’s production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, ‘Mother’ in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel at The People’s Show Theatre in Bethnal Green (Runaway Opera Company). Laetitia has also performed roles in variouos opera scenes from Britten’s A Midsummer’s Nights Dream (Helena), Beethoven’s Fidelio (Marzelina), Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (Gianetta), Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione de Poppea (Nerone), Lortzing’s Der Wildschütz (Gretchen).
Laetitia’s solo oratorio performances include Mozart's Requiem and Exsultate Jubilate (Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra) and Handel’s Messiah (Holy Trinity Brompton, Knightsbridge, and Holy Trinity, Dartford). Her recording and television experience includes BBC’s Radio 4 ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’, BBC 1’s Songs of Praise, ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show and session work for soundtracks used for film and advertisements.
She is a founding member of the soprano trio, The Three Graces, and a member of the chamber choir at Holy Trinity Brompton, Knightsbridge and of Hartley Singers. Laetitia has performed recitals at St Mary Abbots, The Royal College of Music, Holy Trinity Brompton, the Reid Concert Hall in Edinburgh, Edinburgh’s Musicians Society and at Trinity College of Music with an upcoming recital at The Chipping Campden Music Festival in 2009. She looks forward to a career on the concert platform and operatic stage both in the United Kingdom and America.
